Rep. Villalba Statement on School Finance Decision

August 28, 2014

DALLAS – Texas State Representative Jason Villalba (District 114) released the following statement following today’s ruling by 250th District Court Judge John Dietz in the school finance lawsuit:

“Even though the Republican lead Legislature invested over four billion dollars into our public schools during the last legislative session, Judge Dietz, in his ruling today, determined that our current public school finance system remains unconstitutional.

“While I fundamentally disagree with Judge Dietz’ reasoning and have confidence that Attorney General Abbott will prevail on appeal, it is clear to me that the Legislature must act boldly and decisively in the next legislative session to address this complex and critically important issue once and for all.

“Antiquated and ineffective constructs such as Robin Hood and quasi state-wide property taxes must be eliminated if we are to craft a fair and reasonable finance system that works for all of our Texas public school students.

“I will work tirelessly with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to see that we find common-sense solutions that work for all Texas families.”

Capitol Inside: GOP Pillars Make Pitch for Hispanic House Freshman in Letter that Stirs Talk on Future Statewide Campaign

July 29, 2014

By Mike Hailey
Capitol Inside Editor

A handful of highly prominent Texas Republicans have teamed up to raise money for a first-term Hispanic state lawmaker who they’re touting as “a new kind of conservative leader” who’s been fighting to protect a big-tent approach that’s critical to the GOP’s future here.

The heavy-hitter Republicans in question heaped considerable praise on GOP State Rep. Jason Villalba of Dallas in a fundraising letter that they sent to prospective donors on his behalf about 10 days ago. The letter was signed by Dallas-area investors Harlan Crow and Ross Perot Jr. along with former U.S. Senate member Kay Bailey Hutchison, Houston beer distributor John Nau and legendary ex-Dallas Cowboy quarterback Roger Staubach.

February 18, 2014

State Representative Jason Villalba, Republican candidate for re-election to Texas House District 114, today announced endorsements from several groups advocating on behalf of medical professionals. Rep. Villalba is running for his second term in the Texas House of Representatives.

During his first term, Rep. Villalba worked with doctors, nurses, administrators, and healthcare advocates to further legislation and promote thoughtful, common-sense policies that protect the interests of both patients and medical care providers. Rep Villalba received the endorsement of the following organizations:

  • Texas Medical Association (TMA)
  • Texas Hospital Association (THA)
  • Hospital Corporation of America (HCA)
  • HeartPlace
  • Texas Pharmacy Business Council
  • Texas Society of Anesthesiologists
  • Texas Academy of Pediatric Dentistry

“I am honored and humbled to receive the endorsements of these groups with whom I share a commitment for improving the health and wellbeing of all Texans,” said Rep. Villalba. “I am proud of my record of working with these groups on issues of patients’ rights, lawsuit reform, and limiting government interference in patient care. I pledge to continue working to ensure that Texans receive high-quality, affordable healthcare.”

In announcing the candidates endorsed by the Texas Hospital Association John Hawkins said, “Sound health care policies are more important than ever, and these candidates have indicated a willingness to work with Texas hospitals to address health care issues. HOSPAC has endorsed candidates who recognize the importance of health care to all Texans and value the role that hospitals play in caring for our communities as well as their significant contributions to the state’s economy.”
